Description

Calamityware porcelain place settings for 12 dinner guests in a discounted bundle. Each dinner plate features a different calamity from Don Moyer's sketchbook. The mugs are identical but depict a plethora of calamities.

There are two options for the shallow bowls and small plates: Calamities (this bundle) or Insects (click here to switch to the insect bundle).

This 48-piece bundle contains:

  • 12 different Dinner Plates: Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3
  • 12 identical classic 12-ounce Things-Could-Be-Worse Mugs
  • 12 Now What? Shallow Bowls (3 sets of 4 unique designs)
  • 12 Now What? Small Plates (3 sets of 4 unique designs)
Dimensions & More
  • Dinner Plate: 10.5" diameter (26.5 cm)
  • Mug: 4"H (10 cm), 12-ounce (355 mL) capacity to the tippy top

  • Made at the award-winning Kristoff porcelain workshop in Poland.
Care
  • Food safe.
  • Microwave safe.

Where it's made

These porcelain pieces are fired at the Kristoff workshop in Valbrich, Poland, one of the oldest and grandest porcelain workshops in the world. Kristoff has been making porcelain since 1831 and its work can be found in museums and in the palaces of royalty. Our porcelain designs are in-glaze, which means slightly melted into the surface of the piece, to ensure a beautiful crisp image for years to come. Photo by Porcelana Krzysztof Sp. z o.o.

may the Calamityware protect us

My wife and I love Calamityware. She first got mugs and bowls, now I got her the Dinnerware set of 12 for her birthday. Calamities are front and center these days and, as a Family Physician, she is in the thick of it. Here is a picture of her about to go to work, holding the Fur Balls bowl, which looks eerily like the coronavirus...

Joy in the time of Corona

I had to cancel a trip so I used the money to buy these dishes for some joy in our quarantine. They make me smile and have made presenting our meals a delight. Also, as a mom of teens, the Stink Eye plate is my FAVORITE.

Daily joy (and reflection?)

My daughter, an artist, first alerted me to the mugs--I was smitten from my first impression, and moreover the designs stuck in my mind. I ended up ordering the dinnerware for 12--my first full matching set ever. Beautiful and sophisticated size, shape, weight, quality, and the details and character of the designs bring a lot of joy. I bought these back (not that long ago, ages ago) when it seemed there were day to day catastrophes. Now, here we are (moving into April 2020) and our relationship with this art grows more complex as it nourishes.

The Best Christmas Gift Ever!

I have been collecting these glorious plates for years...a zombie poodle here, some dubious musicians there, things could be worse tea set for my anniversary. Holidays (Groundhog Day, Christmas, Arbor Day) usually arrive with a new plate. Over time I have mixed them in with my other blue dinnerware, but my plan was to eventually have enough to serve Thanksgiving dinner to my family and not have them fight and bicker over who gets the cool plates. So imagine my surprise when my husband pulled off the Christmas gift surprise of the year, and got me the full 12 place set! I laughed, I cried, I swooned over the borders looking for the oddities...I searched for the cat...I pondered where the pirates hailed from... and I switched out all my other China to make room for this most amazing collection. For Thanksgiving 2021, when hopefully we are all back around the same table again, all 16 people will have their own work of art to pile their turkey and stuffing and potatoes on to. Oh, and I also use them every single day for every single meal. Also, they are cool enough that my adult kids have already claimed which ones they want when I die, which is a tad bit unsettling but a testament to the awesomeness of these dishes. A family heirloom in the making. Thanks!!

Best. Purchase. Ever.

I've been eyeballing this stuff for a while now, but I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on buying it. That is, until after my wonderful aunt bought me the teapot for Christmas, after I jokingly told her about it. I did not expect such high quality. This stuff is beautifully made, sturdy, some of the highest quality in the market. And super fun to boot! 10 out of 10, I will always recommend buying Calamityware. And, at this point, I may not stop buying it until I have every piece.

I cannot even begin to explain how happy these dishes make me every day. I replaced all of my dishes with service for 12. They all came in one piece, package neatly, and arrived promptly. When a bowl in a separate order was broken it was replaced quickly and with no questions. I use them every day and have run them through the dishwasher with no problems. But mostly I just absolutely love them. Every time I make a cup of tea, they make me smile. Every dinner is a little bit more special. Every time I have guest over, they are delighted. My only complaint is that there isn’t a travel mug yet, But I’m watching kick starter in the hopes that it will happen soon.

Best Mugs EVER!

I purchased a set of the Things-Could-Be-Worse mugs at Christmas-time, gave three as gifts and kept one for myself. My friends LOVE them!! The classic Blue Willow is nostalgic, yet the calamities add a bit of quirk that’s awesome! One friend has made it her work mug and says coffee never stains and the handle stays cool out of the microwave. Well done!!

Outstanding!

I wanted these dishes for years. I didn't really need to replace my dinnerware and put off buying them. When I finally gave in and received them, I fell in love with them. They are so amusing. Each night I get to grab a different themed plate to admire as I eat my meal. The quality is outstanding and they are so much fun. My sister came over during my unpacking of the plates and we spent the night admiring each and every one. If you are in the same indecisive mode I was, just do it!!!

Daily Smiles!

All I can talk about is my Calamityware. I first ordered the Things-Could-Be-Worse coffee mugs and I was hooked. I enjoy the delightful humor and wanted more, so I ordered the 12 place settings of dishes. I couldn't be happier. Great quality and exquisite humor. I smile at every meal.
