The third set of Calamityware dinner plates in a discounted combination. Each porcelain dinner plate features a different calamity from Don Moyer's sketchbook—a plague of frogs, a jogging Sasquatch, a horde of rambunctious zombie poodles, and a menacing pterodactyl.
White porcelain with rich blue images. 10.5" (26.5 cm) diameter. Food safe. Microwave safe. Dishwasher safe. Produced at the award-winning Kristoff porcelain workshop in Poland using the in-glaze decoration process. That means the image is slightly melted into the surface like the fine porcelain you see in museums. Designed by Don Moyer.
Remember, all Calamityware plate designs are different—different borders, different images, and even slightly different blues—because the plates were produced at different times. They will look good together on your table or wall, but they won't be identical.
Porcelain is both delicate and durable. We think you’ll enjoy Don’s blog about caring for your new treasures.
When my beloved boyfriend told me he bought me some plates I thought, Huh? Then when I opened them I laughed, then oooohed and ahhhhhed excitedly. I pronounced very loudly, I LOVE THEM, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!! I am now going to order a few mugs and a puzzle cause I love a good challenge. These are amazing pieces of art and I'm not sure I want to sully them by tossing food all over them. But I will because I want to see the masterpieces unfold with every bite. Keep the cool stuff coming, thanks.
I’ve been needing a new set of dishes, and truly have been searching for months with nothing quite fitting the bill until now. The price is a bit out of my range, but figured if I’m careful I won’t need to replace them, and... they’re art. I ended up starting my collection with some different plates and of course the monkey set. They are absolutely stunning and humorous and all together wonderful! Looking forward to what’s coming next!
I love these plates! I got a platter and bowls for my birthday so I had to go buy plates. Totally glad I did. At first I was going to save them for dinner parties, but screw that. I want to enjoy them every day. If one breaks, boo hoo. I'll buy another. They're too awesome to sit in the cupboard. Thanks for these creative designs and for making me laugh. More please!! (Oh, also, I love that they're blue because there aren't very many blue foods. So your food really stands out on the plate.)
Love these plates so much! I bought 2 sets but I'm wondering if more folks I know need these as gifts this holiday. Always great quality & so much fun!
Wonderful designs in this set, I can't wait to use them for the holidays.
My collection started with a single Robot plate purchased by my husband for me from Kickstarter (because he knows how I love robots). Thus began the addiction!
We now we have a full set of 12 small plates, bowls, mugs, and with the addition of this edition — 12 full-size plates. I have to tell you: I like all of the plates offered (the Kraken! the Sasquatch!), but the new frogs are probably my favorite. The frog plates have so much detail, and who doesn't like frogs? Maybe no one would like so *many* frogs, but ... ;-)
We use all of these pieces a lot of the time, and they always get an appreciative laugh or comment when our guests see them. They wear well and have held up perfectly. I'm hoping for eventual serving bowls and platters, but until then these work well mixed in with other porcelain pieces. Keep up the great work Don and Calamityware!
So far, we had the mugs, and plates 5-8, but obviously needed 9-12 for an 8-place setting (any chance 1-4 will ever be redone?) They're still in the box as they're my wife's Christmas gift, but I inspected them and they're just as great as all the others. Next up, salad plates and soup bowls! Can't wait until we have complete place settings and hold a formal dinner party
I just received series three! I now have a complete set including all 12 dinner plates, bowls, small plates, and mugs!
Every night we close our eyes and randomly pick a dish. Part of the fun of each meal is discovering the calamities beneath the food! It never gets old!
Thanks so much for a little bit of weird in the world!
Calamityware works very well with other traditional blue and white porcelain, especially if you like a mismatched, but coordinated, table. The bonus is the different hidden calamities - my niece loves to find the disaster on her plate, while I appreciate the twisted humor.
It's also very convenient that these plates can be run through the dishwasher after large family meals.
When not in use, I display the plates on a buffet. It's fun to see who looks at them closely enough to realize the designs are not quite what is expected.
If your friends or family are superstitious, this isn't the best dinnerware to serve their meals. However, it *is* a great gift for someone with an off sense of humor, and appreciates a twist on an familiar pattern.
I kickstarted this series and absolutely love them. They are high quality and the designs are great. Even the designs on the plate rims are all different and beautiful. From a distance, they look like classic, classy china plates. Very respectable and elegant. Up close, they're good for a laugh. They're perfect for the kind of person who likes subtle, tongue-in-cheek humor and is a bit nerdy.
