Pirates in Production

Production of the pirate plates has started. The vitreous ink transfers are already done and the effort to apply them to the plates has begun. The workshop will start firing this week.

I’ve made a visual overview to show you the process. We are currently at step 9. If you don't have time to study the process in detail, just relax in the knowledge that production is underway and space for the Calamityware container has been reserved on the ship (step 15).

The next Calamityware plate design launched as a Kickstarter project on Friday, May 15. I hope you are ready. If you want to add thrills to your meals, there’s nothing more exciting than an active volcano and a river of burning lava. I hope you’ll decide to support this unusual project.

Friends, knowing that I dabble in underglaze tissue transfer, had me to a dinner party using your plates. Impressive, and thank you for describing your decoration process!

I love this stuff. All of the dishes, mugs, canisters are high quality. The transfer stencil process is interesting, I didn’t know how that was done and you explain it visually well. Now I’m trying to decide between series 1 or series 3 for dinner plates. It has to be one or the other, though. Thanks for making me happy.

Thank you for the excellent answer! It refutes a wikipedia comment that another company is the last to produce transferwares. (WHAT??? I said…) We are archaeologists, identifying the ceramics assemblage from the San Diego Presidio, dating 1790-1840. My specialty is historic ceramics, particularly encompassing all the wares from England. Transferwares are a highly datable and well researched design type. We have many patterns (I’ve identified around 30 or so), including Willow ware. I found your Calamityware when googling Willow ware. THIS year, after a 10 year effort, my family will be eating off Calamityware plates on Christmas morning. We expect our report to be completed next year; published both in a black and white hard version, and a color on line version. I am asking my coauthor to include my note on Calamityware. Merry Christmas to all!

Is lead testing incorporated in any of those steps? I couldn’t find mention of it on the Kristoff site.

Thank you. Have a great day.
