Dubious Musicians Petite Plates (Set of 4)

Shipping and taxes calculated at checkout. Free U.S. shipping on orders over $200.

Description

Making beautiful music requires energy and enthusiasm. Of course, making terrible music also requires energy and enthusiasm. No musicians can match the energy and enthusiasm of monkey percussionists. A rather small calamity but these are pretty small porcelain plates, each with a different rambunctious monkey.

Sold only in sets of four. Each set contains four different petite porcelain plates.

Dimensions & More Info
  • 7” diameter (18 cm)
  • Rich blue images on white porcelain.
  • Designed by Don Moyer and initially launched as his 34th Kickstarter project in 2018.
  • Produced using the in-glaze decoration process. That means the image is slightly melted into the surface like the fine porcelain you see in museums.
  • Remember, each plate design is different—four different borders and images. The blues in this set of small plates will match each other. And, although they will look good with your other Calamityware dinner plates, the blues may be slightly different from your other Calamityware pieces because they were fired at different times.
  • Made at the award-winning Kristoff porcelain workshop in Poland.
Use & Care

Use:

  • The small plates will nicely accommodate small desserts, and snacks. Might be too small for your giant burger.

Care:

  • Food safe.
  • Microwave safe.
  • Dishwasher safe.
  • Porcelain is both delicate and durable. We think you’ll enjoy Don’s blog about caring for your new treasures.

These porcelain pieces were fired at the Kristoff workshop in Valbrich, Poland, one of the oldest and grandest porcelain workshops in the world. Kristoff began making porcelain in 1831, and its work can be found in museums and in the palaces of royalty. Our porcelain designs are in-glaze, which means slightly melted into the surface of the piece, to ensure a beautiful crisp image for years to come. Photo by Porcelana Krzysztof Sp. z o.o.

Face your fears.

These monkeys scare the s*** out of me. Super creepy. Therefore I decided I needed them to eat my desert off of, in order to desensitize myself. I don't think it's working, but I do enjoy surprising my friends when they finish their cheesecake, bend down for a closer look, then spray crumbs from their mouths. I swear I saw the monkey smile when this happened. Cheeky bugger.

Silly, silly fun dishes

Love 'em! We have dinner plates, salad plates, rimmed soup bowls and now butter plates. They bring smiles to our faces. They mix well with blue willow serving pieces (this is a hint: we need veggie serving bowls, preferably with venus flytraps as the motif.) Nice china, nice weight. What's there not to like?

family memories

My mother and her younger brother had a contest to see which of them could send the other the silliest birthday present each year. My uncle assured himself membership in the Silly Birthday Present Hall of Fame the year he sent Mama the wind-up monkey banging cymbals together. We all had so many good laughs with that silly-but-scary monkey. As soon as I saw the Dubious Musician Petite Plates, I knew I had to add them to my other Calamityware pieces. They are the perfect dessert plate size. I only wish Mama and Uncle DeeDee were still living so I could send them some to giggle about too.

Cheeky (of course) but also dainty

I have Clamityware's tea set and decided to get these plates for tea cakes. They're perfect. I was surprised by how dainty/fine the porcelain is, but it's gone through the dishwasher and microwave and doesn't seem to care at all. The plates look great with the tea set. I feel very sophisticated, and also like I am tricking my guests. I'm glad I made this purchase!

Exactly right

I found this site in January and have been sitting on this for MONTHS. I finally got to order her first real teapot, and she is absolutely in love with them. We were playing with the idea of getting China for special occasions, and now we're going to buy a set for 8 people, the cookie jar, the serving platter... We'll have this China for the rest of our lives. Thank you for creating something so perfectly odd.

Dubious musicians rock!

I bought these as a birthday present to myself. These little plates are perfect for sandwiches or lunch salads or desserts ( although let's face it, dessert does look good on just about any dish, because it's dessert). The designs are a lot of fun to look at, and they coordinate well with my Calamityware mugs.

The Perfect Gift!!! (Twice)

Bought these for my niece. Her husband is a musician. I was a bit worried about a repeat performance as we had given her the little bowls as a Christmas gift. But no need to worry. She was thrilled! She loves the Calamityware theme... as do all of us who see the world as it is and have decided that humor is our best defense against despair. These gifts have been received with such joy, I'm thinking of the platter for next time...

Fun

I gave to friends for their 50th Wedding Anniversary and they loved them. They have all blue and white dishes but none with monkeys before these. Successful gift.
