Good word: borborygmus

Borborygmus (noun) is that rumbling, gurgling noise created as your lunch makes its way through the plumbing of your intestines. What a charming and useful word. At our house, we usually employ the plural form, borborygmi. That’s because we usually hear the whole orchestra, not a solo.

On which syllable is the accent? And is the ‘g’ hard or soft, please?

Thank you for this word. I had recent reason to discover it, independent of your blog post. My reason included a very restless night with our dog. You can only laugh the next morning, glad for your coffee and that you are not on a space ship!

Thank you for all the smiles that your creativity brings! While a fan (and owner) of the the calamity ware… this illustration reminded me that the first, and only, boat my family owned was actually, and appropriately named “borborygmus.” It was a brief relationship.
